Calling An Emergency Plumber When Necessary
No one wants to call an emergency plumber unless they absolutely have to. As a homeowner, it’s important for you to know the difference between a plumbing emergency and something that can wait until the next day, or whenever the plumbing company is open again. If you find yourself in one of these situations, it’s best to call for an emergency plumber right away.
A Pipe Has Burst
If a pipe, either inside or out, has burst, you need to shut the water off to that pipe, or to the entire house to be safe. After you’ve done that, it’s best to call for an emergency plumber. You might have to get a pipe replacement on that fixture or, at the very least, there will be some patching and repairs. You don’t know if that pipe is the only one that’s going bad, so it’s safest to have a plumber fix that element and inspect the rest of the home, so you are safe again.
The Sewer Is Backing Up
You don’t want this kind of plumbing problem because it causes a real mess and can even be a health hazard. It makes living difficult in any home and you want the issue taken care of right away. Whether a toilet is backing up and overflowing continuously, or you have sewage coming up any drains, call for an emergency plumber right away.
There’s Flooding Happening
Whether your sump pump failed, or the water shut off valve isn’t working, if your home is flooding with water, you need to call a professional and get that taken care of immediately. It can be a safety concern to let water sit for too long and you don’t want mold and mildew to settle in. Get the issue fixed so you can clean up and dry out the space as fast as possible.
You Have No Water
If you don’t have running water or a problem with your water for whatever reason, you can’t cook, clean, bathe, or do anything else that normal life demands. You’ll want to get that looked at as soon as possible so you can move on with your everyday life.
What Can Wait?
If you find something happening over the weekend, you can plan ahead and have a plumber come out first thing next week. If you have slow running drains, for example, that aren’t completely backed up, but are on their way, you can probably be careful with that drain until the plumber is available. If you want to do remodeling work and need a plumber’s help, that can wait as well. If you need an ice machine or garbage disposal hooked up, call for help the next week.
