Combatting Kitchen Plumbing Problems
The kitchen is the heart of any home and while there are a number of things that make up the functionality of the space, no kitchen would be complete without plumbing. The kitchen plumbing generally revolves around the sink, with a dishwasher nearby and perhaps a hookup to water and ice makers in the fridge. Most of the frequent issues in kitchen plumbing have to do with the sink since it is the most used plumbing fixture in the room. Here are a few of the issues that pop up over the years in the kitchen plumbing.
Leaky Kitchen Faucet
You might be annoyed by the kitchen sink dripping when it’s not supposed to, but if you think about how much water those drips add up to, you’ll be more than just annoyed. You never want to waste water you aren’t using, and you can even feel that waste on your water bill. Instead of just dealing with the leak as an annoyance, have the plumber check things out. It might be there’s something that needs to be tightened up, but there could also be a crack in the faucet that calls for a fixture replacement. If there’s a leak coming from the base, the issue could be even more serious.
Water Pressure Drops
The water pressure in the sink is important in any kitchen plumbing. You need enough pressure to rinse plates and veggies, right? If the pressure drops from normal to a trickle, you night have hard water deposits or other issues that need to be inspected. You may just have to get a water softener or clean out the one you have. In a worst case scenario, you could have a leak elsewhere in the house, like in the water main, that is causing pressure to drop elsewhere. Have your kitchen plumbing checked out and the plumber can look at other parts of the house if needed.
Clogged Drains
Probably the most common kitchen plumbing issue is a clogged kitchen sink. The garbage disposal can get clogged up and the drain can run slowly or back up completely. You can try a kitchen plumber, but if that doesn’t work, or if the issue is recurring, it’s best to have a professional check things over. Chemical drain cleaners can actually damage the pipes so it’s best not to use them, even to temporarily fix a clog.
