Your Worst Plumbing Nightmares

Plumbing Emergencies

You probably don’t stay up late into the night worrying about your plumbing, but from time to time, it might cross your mind. Perhaps you hear about a plumbing issue a friend had. Maybe you see a movie with some sort of plumbing snafu. You have to admit, there are certain plumbing emergencies that would be your worst nightmare. Here are a few to dread.

Overflowing Toilet

You know what goes down the toilet and it’s not pretty. It would be even worse if any of that stuff came back up and took over your entire bathroom floor and then some. An overflowing toilet is often the largest plumbing fear that a homeowner can have. And the reality is, it can happen to anyone. Overflowing toilets are not hard to accomplish because all it takes is a backed up pipe. With nowhere for the waste to go, it has to come back up.

Burst Pipe

There’s not much worse when it comes to plumbing damage outside of a burst pipe, especially if you don’t happen to be home when it happens. Flooding can occur and you can have some real damage on your hands. If you don’t get things cleaned up and straightened out properly, it can lead to serious damage like mold later on as well. Burst pipes are definitely a plumbing nightmare no homeowner wants to have happen to them.

Unknown Leaks

While you can see your faucet and your showerhead, you can’t see every pipe in your home. Something might be leaking and you may not notice at first. When those leaks occur without recognition, you could get water damage between your walls or in a number of other locations. That can also lead to dangerous mold and damage beyond simple fixes. The nightmare you don’t even know about could be lurking nearby.

Water Pressure Issues

The last thing you want is to get into the shower only to have a small drip come from your showerhead instead of your normal flow. This plumbing nightmare is more of an inconvenience, but it will never happen at a good time. It will usually take place when you have a house full of company over the holidays, for example.

Avoiding Plumbing Nightmares

There are a number of ways you can keep these plumbing emergencies from impeding your everyday life. No one wants a plumbing nightmare to become reality so follow these steps to avoid them, if at all possible.

Call Professionals At The First Sign

If you have something small going on with your plumbing, like a toilet that won’t stop running or a leaky faucet, call a plumber before the issue grows to something larger and out of control.

Just like your HVAC system, plumbing is something that can stand a tune up every year or so. Have a professional look things over in order to prevent large issues from surprising you at an inconvenient time.
