Where Is the Hot Water Going?
Water heaters are essential to our everyday lives. They heat water that allows us to take showers and baths, complete loads of laundry, run the dishwasher, and more. When left with no hot water, your daily routine can be negatively impacted. If you are wondering why there is none left, it may be due to a number of reasons. Learn more about where the hot water is going with the experts at Stephens Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning.
Too Much Demand
One of the most common reasons why hot water runs out fast is because too many appliances and fixtures are operating at the same time, thus using all of the heated water. This is especially an issue when several people are living under the same roof. In order to resolve this issue, you should consider purchasing a larger water heater and also be mindful of when different appliances and fixtures are in use.
Sediment Buildup
Another reason why you may be running out of hot water is due to sediment buildup. Sediment can build up in your water heater from the minerals in your water supply. To bring heat back to your water, it is important that you remove the sediment. To do this, you first have to turn off your water heater. Next, find the cold water valve and turn it off. When the water has cooled down, it must be drained using a hose that can be attached and the drain valve must be turned on. Once all of the water has been drained along with the sediment, you are able to refill the water tank and get back to enjoying heated water!
Faulty Thermostat
Your thermostat may be the culprit when it comes to there not being any hot water. If you find that there is power and the heater is still not working, the thermostat will need to be replaced. And who better to call than Stephens?
Water Heater Needs to Be Replaced
On average, water heaters last around 10-12 years. If you’re passing this marker and notice your water is failing to get hot, it is time for your heater to be replaced. At Stephens, we recommend installing a tankless water heater. Tankless water heaters can last up to 20 years or more and heat on demand in order to conserve energy and save you money!
