Signs that It’s Time to Repair Your Water Heater

Paying Attention To Water Heater Repair Needs

Your water heater isn’t something you think about on a regular basis. In fact, as long as you have hot water, you probably take this appliance for granted. But if any of these signs pop up, you might need water heater repair. The water heater mixes electricity with water, so it’s always best to have a professional diagnose and repair any issues the appliance has. Here are a few signs that it might need some attention.

Sign 1: Your Water Is Cold

This is the most obvious sign that will cause you to call a plumber right away. No one wants to take a cold shower every morning and you need hot water for dishes, laundry, and other essentials. If you have nothing but cold water, you definitely have a problem.

Sign 2: Fluctuating Heat In The Water

Obviously, if you have no hot water, you need water heater repairs, but if you have fluctuating temperatures where the water goes from hot to cold and back again, even if you haven’t changed the level yourself, there could also be something wrong. You could have mineral deposits around the heating element on the hot water heater, which might cause it to be repaired or replaced to fix the issue.

Sign 3: Low Water Pressure

Mineral deposits can also reduce the amount of water that comes out when you are using hot water. They can even block pipes if they build up enough, which can also reduce the water pressure. If you notice the water pressure going down when you use hot water, water heater repairs are necessary.

Sign 4: The Appliance Is Leaking

You know if you see a leak around your water heater, it needs repairs. But you won’t notice this unless you take a trip downstairs and look the appliance over on a regular basis. Many people don’t bother with this until they notice they no longer have hot water. Make it a habit to do a monthly check along with other items to prevent having a more serious issue.

Sign 5: Hot Water Is Rusty

If all of your water has a taste or looks rusty, you likely have corroded pipes. If only your hot water has a color and/or scent, there’s likely something wrong with the hot water heater. You will want to get that fixed before it causes the tank to completely fail or cause other problems with your pipes.

Sign 6: Weird Sounds

You will normally get some noise from the hot water heater, but if there’s banging, cracking, or popping occuring  that you don’t normally hear, the water heater could overheat if you don’t call someone. It’s probably from mineral deposits that can easily be cleared out by a professional.
